Don’t sleep on this chance for your nonprofit to save on postage.
USPS has just announced its 2025 Promotions and Postage Discount Schedules, and there are several great opportunities for nonprofits to save on postage—ranging from 3% to 5%. This year, there are two add-on promotions that offer an additional 1% discount, which can be stacked with the monthly promotions. These are available throughout all of 2025, and both are worth utilizing for every mailing:
- Informed Delivery Promo: This is a returning promo that many of you are already familiar with from previous years.
- Sustainability Promo: This is new for 2025. If the paper used in your mailing is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) or the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), you’ll qualify for an additional 1% postage discount. The great news is that most paper used by printers in the U.S. and Canada is certified by one or both of these organizations, so this is an easy win!
Why Should You Care About These Small Discounts?
You might think, "3–5% doesn’t sound like much," but over the course of the year, those savings add up quickly. For example, with one AmPhil’s client’s fall appeals, we saved them $12,326.51 in postage simply by using the Informed Delivery promo on 1.5 million pieces of mail.
Even for smaller mailings, the savings are significant. Here’s a breakdown:
- A $100 savings means you can mail an additional 200 pieces for no extra cost.
- A $500 savings allows you to mail an extra 1,000 pieces.
How Can You Ensure You’re Getting These Discounts?
All of AmPhil’s approved vendors are familiar with these USPS promotions. Just make sure to mention the promo when you release the job to them. If your client’s printer isn’t aware of these discounts, let me know. I can work directly with the client’s printer to ensure they’re taking full advantage of these promotions.
I’ve seen instances where a larger client’s printer was completely unaware of these programs — don’t assume your client or their printer is familiar with USPS promos. This is too high-value an opportunity to pass up on.
Action Steps:
- For 2025 mailings:Be sure to use both the Informed Delivery Promo and the Sustainability Promo to maximize savings.
- For 2024 EOY mailings:Don’t forget about the 2024 USPS Informed Delivery Promo—it offers a 4% discount and should be used in all mailings to close out the year!
