At the end of a life in gangs, abusing drugs and alcohol, with a five percent chance of survival, Estevan Medina received mercy and founded a gang prevention nonprofit in Colorado Springs.

"'God loved me and gave me a second chance,' Medina said. 'I was one of the people who didn't deserve it because of my past, my background. He showed me mercy, love and grace on me.'

He founded Second Chance Through Faith in 2009, one of the only known nonprofit gang prevention programs in Colorado Springs. The program has touched the lives of about 800 at-risk youths, including teenagers who were in juvenile corrections. Police said that as of April, 10 percent of the 700 confirmed gang members in Colorado Springs are juveniles.

Medina said the point of his faith-based program is to give potential gang members a second chance - before they get fully caught up in that lifestyle. But Second Chance Through Faith doesn't 'force God on them. That's a choice they have to make.'--Chhun Sun, the Colorado Springs Gazette
