A former player for the San Diego Padres' minor league team has started an app, Doofl, that serves as a platform for charities to dare people to do silly stunts and give to charity.
"You know, that viral video phenomenon in 2014 that took the Internet by storm for about 2 months and consumed your Facebook newsfeed with videos showing people pouring buckets of ice water over their heads?
"Well, in case you didn't know, that was all being done in the name of charity. More specifically, all those buckets and videos helped raise awareness and therefore donations for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Ultimately, the ice bucket challenge—beyond raising more than $220 million and leading to several scientific breakthroughs—provided a defining lesson in how non-profits can leverage mobile video and social media to maximize their reach.
"Fast forward two years and it is clear that the impact of the Ice Bucket Challenge is still being felt in 2016."--Chris Bing, DC Inno
