Housing nonprofit Inclusive Communities Project files suit against HUD over housing vouchers, claiming perpetuation of racial discrimination in North TX.

"A lawsuit filed this week says a federal program that provides rental assistance to poor families also perpetuates racial segregation in North Texas. The suit seeks to force the federal government to change how it handles subsidized rental vouchers to make it easier for recipients to move out of blighted neighborhoods and into areas with higher rents, lower crime and more jobs. It also aims to thwart a policy that pushes minorities toward impoverished neighborhoods, the suit says. That goal could be achieved by raising the maximum rent the program allows for voucher recipients in higher-rent areas and lowering that threshold in lower-rent areas, those behind the suit say." -- Steve Thompson, the Dallas Morning News
