Jim Rogers was a rare breed --native Las Vegan-- who became media mogul and gave away about $4 for every $10 he earned, a lifetime total of $200 million.

"James Earl 'Jim' Rogers, a longtime conscientious media mogul, dedicated education crusader, hard-nosed lawyer, frugal banker and devoted philanthropist widely known for his piercing wit, keen intelligence and brutal candor, died Saturday. He was 75. . . . [D]uring his lifetime, Rogers gave away an estimated $4 of every $10 he earned — $200 million to nonprofit organizations and educational institutions, including the law school from which he graduated, which was renamed for him. In 2000, Rogers was named one of the nation’s top 12 philanthropists by Time magazine." -- Ed Koch, the Las Vegas Sun
