Retired? Don't need your Social Security check? Napa, CA, philanthropist is starting nonprofit that will donate them to charity to help needy seniors.

"[George Altamura] calls his brainchild Social Security and Pensiongivers. A website has been reserved for that name, and a lawyer is drawing up papers for a 501(C) nonprofit organization, he said. 'It’s for the thousands who get it (Social Security), but don’t need it,' Altamura said. 'So many people out there are hurting so bad.' To get the ball rolling, on Nov. 19, his birthday, Altamura gave a check for $2,058 — his monthly SS benefit and a $323 military pension — to Meals on Wheels. His donation was enough to buy 586 senior meals." -- Kevin Courtney, the Napa Valley Register
