According to the newly released 2022 Edelman Trust Barometer, the percentage of U.S. respondents saying they trust non-governmental organizations (NGOs) “to do what is right” declined from 50% in 2021 to 45% in 2022.

Among Democrats in particular, according to the Edelman survey, trust in NGOs was at 57%—the same as last year. Among Republicans, it was at 38%, down 11% from last year.

Trust in business in America—at 49% in 2022, also down 5% from 2021—was higher than that in NGOs. Trust in media and government was lower than that in NGOs. Trust in media was at 39% in 2022, down 6% from 2021. Trust in government was at 39% in 2022, down 3% from 2021.

The online survey was conducted in 28 countries, with 1,150 respondents in each country.
