It is common for a professional athlete to buy their mother a home; one former NFL running back, Warrick Dunn honors his mother by helping 145 single parents purchase their own home.

"Many know Warrick Dunn for what he's done on the football field, but you'll soon know him for the number of lives he's changed through his foundation.

"The former Buccaneers and Falcons running back began Warrick Dunn Charities, a non-profit geared toward helping single parents and their children, in his rookie year of 1997. It started with the Homes for the Holidays initiative to honor his mother Betty Smothers, a police officer in Baton Rouge who was killed in 1993 during an off-duty assignment driving a grocery-store manager to make a bank deposit.

"Two weeks ago, Dunn helped his 145th single parent become a homeowner, getting Xeniya McBroom and her daughter into a home while also donating a $5,000 down payment."--Justin Tasch, the New York Daily News
